COACHING STAFF
Coach Matt Seymour has over eighteen years of coaching experience under his belt. He coached extremely successful seasons at Baker High School (3 years), UMS-Wright (8 years), and Faith (11 years), all as the assistant varsity baseball coach. While he was at UMS-Wright his team won the state championship in 1999. While at Faith Academy, Coach Seymour has helped the Rams earn two 5A Area Championships (2012 and 2013) and the 2008 AISA state championship. Along with the numerous team awards, three of the Faith players made All County, and five received scholarships within this last year (2013). Not only is Coach Seymour a seasoned coach, but also an experienced teacher, with over fifteen years in the classroom. He currently resides in Mobile with his wife Lori, who also teaches at Faith, and his three children, Maddie (17), Jay (14), and Gracie (11). Coach Michael Bumstead is a graduate of Big Bear High School in Big Bear Lake, California, where he was a 3-Sport athlete in Baseball, Football and Basketball. In California, Mike was an All-State Selection as a Pitcher and Outfielder and was also an All-State Punter in Football. Mike attended Cerritos Community College in Norwalk, California where he was the punter on the football team and was named to the All-South Coast Conference Team as an outfielder in both 1997 and 1998. Mike went onto Cal State University of Northridge (CSUN) as a starting outfielder. After his senior year, Mike signed with the San Diego Padres as a pitcher. Mike played eight years of professional baseball playing with the San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers and the Newark Bears.

Coach Will Smith is entering his eighth season of coaching baseball all of which has been at Faith Academy. In his first four seasons he was the Junior Varsity head coach and assisted the Varsity part-time under Head Coach Lloyd Skoda. In 2015, Coach Smith joined the Varsity staff full time under Head Coach Matt Seymour coaching hitters and infielders. Coach Smith has been an integral part of Faith’s staff which in the course of three years won over 100 games and reached the State Finals three times, winning the school’s first State Championship as a member of the AHSAA in 2018. Over that course of time, numerous offensive and defensive records have been broken in the school’s tradition rich baseball program, including 39 homeruns in 2018.

Coach Jason Coggin is a 1996 graduate of Robertsdale High School where he played football and baseball. Coach Coggin has 8 years experience coaching baseball and 4 years experience coaching football. He served as the Offensive Coordinator for the Faith Academy Middle School football team for 2018, where the team finished the season with a 6-2 record.
Coach Coggin has been married to his wife, Amber, for 16 years. They have two children, daughter Piper (14) and son Everett (12), who both attend Faith Academy. |
