Mike Bumstead Bio cont...

Mike spent all or parts of 4 season at the Triple A level with all 3 organizations. In his rookie season, Mike made the Mid-West League All-Star as a closer and ranked 1st in saves before his promotion to the Lake Elsinore Storm. The Lake Elsinore Storm that year went onto to be The Minor League Team of the Year with a 94-49 record. In 2002, Mike led the team with 10 wins and 146 innings pitched. In 2003, Mike played for the Mobile BayBears where he led the team with a 2.88 ERA. In 2004, after a promotion to AAA, he had a 4-0 record in 18 games with the Padres. In 2005 Mike was traded to the Seattle Mariners playing in Tacoma Washington. In 2006, Mike signed as a Free Agent with the Texas Rangers and had a combined ERA of 1.75 between Double A and Triple A with the Rangers. In 2008, Mike played in the Atlantic League with the Newark Bears where he led the league with 14 wins, innings pitched with 177.2 and 2nd in the league with 143 strikeouts. 
During Mike’s eight years of professional baseball, he served as the player rep for Baseball Chapel. He was involved with PAO (Professional Athletes Outreach), Athletes In Action (Campus Crusade for Christ Sports Ministry), and FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). Mike’s favorite verse is Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do, where in word or in deed, do it all in the Name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

After Mike’s playing days were over, Mike returned to CSUN and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. In 2011 Mike served as a volunteer Assistant Coach at the University of Mobile working with the pitchers and outfielders. Mike then became the pitching coach at Bishop State Junior College where he helped lower the team ERA over the 2 seasons Mike was there and saw a handful of players go onto 4 year Colleges and Universities.

Mike has been part of the Faith Academy Baseball Program for five years as Pitching Coach alongside Head Coach Matt Seymour and Hitting Coach Will Smith. The trio have been a part of Three Area Championships, Three consecutive trips to the 5A State Championship and One 5AState Championship where they were ranked #2 in the Nation with MaxPreps and #3 with Perfect Game. The State Championship season of 2018 saw a Team ERA of 1.54 and a 34-3 record.

Mike met his wife, the former Christin Kelly, while playing for the Mobile BayBears. The couple’s wedding was featured on the Oxygen Channel on Real Weddings from The Knot.Com. Mike and Christin have spoken all over the country promoting True Love Waits. They have a son, Collins (8) who serves as the Bat Boy, and a daughter Lucy (5) who both attend Faith Academy.
