John Griffin (JG) Bell of the Faith Academy Rams is named the MIDTOWN OPTIMIST CLUB "Player of the Week" for the fifth week of the 2020 area high school baseball season.
JG is an infielder that has signed to play college baseball at Auburn University.
In five games last week, JG was 8-for-15 with 8 runs; 7 RBIs, 4 doubles, 2 home runs, 4 walks and 2 stolen bases.
On the season, Bell is hitting .364 (16-for-44) with 13 RBIs; 18 runs, five doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, 11 walks and 9 stolen bases for Coach Matt Seymour's Rams, which are 10-5 overall and ranked #4 in the 6A State poll.
Bell is a career .388 hitter in his previous three seasons at Faith Academy. He collected 26 doubles; four triples, three homers, 51 RBIs and 75 runs scored before his senior season.
JG helped his team win the 5A State Championship in 2018 and runner-up in 2017.
On March 14th John Griffin Bell tweeted, "Crazy to think these next two games could be the last two of my senior season and it feels like it just started. Everything happens for a reason though and this is all part of God's Plan."
Bell responded by going 4-for-7 with 2 home runs; a double, 3 runs, 5 RBIs and a stolen base in games against Tuscaloosa and Opelika.
The 2020 baseball season and so much more in our world has been put on shutdown because of the world wide Coronavirus.
